✓ Specs last checked: 2026-09-02
Saras Udyog makes woven, knitted and braided elastic bands from 3mm to 100mm at our factory in Jaipur, India, in latex and latex-free versions. We've supplied garment factories since 1991 and export to 60+ countries.
An elastic band is a narrow stretch tape made by covering rubber or spandex cores with polyester yarn, built to stretch and recover thousands of times without going slack. Buyers also call it elastic tape or elastic webbing; it is the same product. We've made them at our factory in Jaipur since 1991 — woven, knitted and braided, 3mm to 100mm wide (about 1/8 in to 3.9 in), latex and latex-free.
Our braiding, twisting and dyeing all run in-house, so we control the spec from yarn to finished roll.
Woven, knit or braided elastic — which one do you need?
Three constructions, three different jobs:
Type
Behaviour
Best for
Woven
Firm, holds its full width under stretch
Heavy waistbands, belts, bags
Knitted
Soft, light, curls less, sews cleanly
Underwear, loungewear, babywear
Braided
Strong and economical, narrows when stretched
Inside casings, drawcords, general purpose
One rule saves you money: if you're stitching straight through the elastic, don't use braided. It narrows under stretch and needle holes wreck its recovery, and it looks identical to knitted on the roll. Woven or knitted for stitch-through.
If your enquiry just says elastic for sewing without naming a construction, send us the width and the stretch you need and we'll tell you which of the three fits.
What sewing elastic sizes, colours and latex options do we run?
We run woven, knitted and braided elastic from 3mm to 100mm at the Jaipur factory — in inches, that is about 1/8 in to 3.9 in, with 1/4 in, 1/2 in, 3/4 in, 1 in, 1.5 in and 2 in all sitting inside the range. White and black ship fastest. Custom shades go through our in-house dyeing line, so there's no third-party dyehouse adding weeks or drifting your colour between lots.
Latex versions use rubber cores — the classic firm snap. Latex-free versions use spandex cores, for skin-contact garments and buyers who need to avoid latex entirely. Send us your target width and stretch; you'll have a quote within one working day.
Lock your spec with us once — width, stretch percentage, colour standard — and we keep it on file. A reorder then takes one line by email, and the roll that lands matches the last one.
Need round elastic cord? See our round elastic cord line, 1-3 mm, with heavier diameters on request.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between woven and knitted elastic?
Woven elastic stays firm and holds its full width when stretched, while knitted elastic is softer, lighter and curls less when sewn. Use woven for heavy waistbands and belts, and knitted for underwear, loungewear and lightweight garments. Braided is a third option — strong and economical, but it narrows under stretch, so keep it inside casings.
What is the minimum order quantity for elastic bands from India?
Our minimum order is 1,000 meters per SKU, about 1,094 yards, and a SKU is one width in one construction and one shade — change any of the three and it is another 1,000 m. So a first order proves one tape on your own line before you commit to bulk. Many buyers combine several SKUs into a single carton to save on freight.
What does elastic tape cost per metre?
₹3-10 per metre ex-works Jaipur. Width does the work: 3 mm braided elastic sits at the bottom, 100 mm woven waistband elastic at the top. Latex-free spandex cores price slightly above standard rubber at the same width.
Do you make latex-free elastic bands?
Yes, we make latex-free elastic using spandex cores instead of rubber. It suits skin-contact garments and buyers who need to avoid latex for allergy reasons. Both versions come in the same 3-100mm width range.
How long does elastic take to ship from India?
Air courier takes 7-14 days and sea freight takes 25-40 days from our factory in Jaipur. Repeat orders against a held spec move quickest.
What widths of elastic bands can you supply?
We supply elastic from 3mm up to 100mm wide — roughly 1/8 in to 3.9 in. The common US widths fall inside that range: 6mm is about 1/4 in, 12mm about 1/2 in, 20mm about 3/4 in, 25mm about 1 in, 38mm about 1.5 in and 50mm about 2 in. That covers everything from lingerie strap elastic to wide waistbands and back-support belts, and all widths come in white, black or custom shades dyed in-house.
Do you make elastic patti for waistbands and masks?
Elastic patti — woven, knitted or braided elastic tape — is this page, 3 mm to 100 mm wide. Garment units use the narrow widths for masks and cuffs and the broad ones for waistbands; every width-and-shade is its own SKU at 1,000 metres, made in Jaipur.
