How minimum order quantities (MOQ) work
MOQ stands for minimum order quantity: the smallest quantity of one item that a supplier will make or sell in a single order.
Minimums are set per SKU, not per order. Anything sold by length (cord, rope, tape, ribbon) starts at 2,000 metres per SKU. Finished goods such as shoelaces and curtain tie-backs are sold by the piece or the pair, from 5,000 up. 2,000 m is about 2,187 yards.
On most lines a SKU is one combination of size, construction and shade, so each colour and each size has to reach the minimum on its own. You can put several SKUs in one order. For example:
- Five shades of the same cord in one size is five SKUs: 5 × 2,000 m = 10,000 m in total.
- Shoelaces in three colours need 5,000 pairs of each: 3 × 5,000 = 15,000 pairs, not 5,000 split three ways.

Custom colours
Dyeing is done in-house. The product pages say shades are matched to your physical swatch or a Pantone or colour reference. See, for example, the satin ribbon, shoelace and cotton rope pages. On several lines a lab dip (a small dyed sample of your shade) is sent for approval before the bulk lot is dyed, including macrame cord, cotton yarn and embroidery thread.
On most cord, rope, tape and lace lines the natural, undyed version is cotton, and every dyed shade is spun polyester finished to look and feel like cotton. Some lines use other fibres, such as jute, nylon-spandex fold over elastic and polyester satin ribbon. Each product page states its own fibre.
Optional sample before bulk
A 10 m sample is optional: ₹3,500 + 5% GST. The sample fee is not adjusted against a bulk order. The sample is a physical cutting of the exact construction and colour, made and couriered to you. If you take a sample, bulk production starts once you have approved it in your hand. For some made-up goods, such as tassels and drawstring bags, a counter-sample is made for your approval before production.
If you want to match a product you already buy, send a photograph with something for scale next to it, such as a coin or a ruler. If you can, also post us a short length. From a physical cutting the fibre, the number of plies or carriers, the twist direction and the finished diameter can be read directly.

The quote gives a price per metre, kilo, piece or pair against your spec, with the put-up and packing it would ship on. If your spec is ambiguous, the quote is for the nearest standard construction and says so.
Delivery anywhere in India is included in the price. Made-to-order designs are dispatched in 20 to 25 days after the order is confirmed, then about 2 to 6 days by courier. We ship worldwide. Orders placed on macramethread.com are shipped to 90 countries with the shipping charge shown at checkout, priced by destination zone and maximum packed weight and refunded down to the courier's actual charge after weighing; export consignments larger than the online checkout allows are quoted ex-works Jaipur with air and sea options. Buyers outside India pay at checkout by international card through Razorpay, or by bank transfer against a proforma invoice; PayPal remains available for orders placed by email or WhatsApp. Orders at or near the minimum normally go by courier and volume orders go by sea. Give the destination port or city and both options can go in the same quote.
What to send
To get a usable price in the first reply, include:

- Quantity per SKU: metres, kg, pieces or pairs for each colour and size, not just a total.
- Destination: country and city, or port for sea freight.
- Timeline: when you need it landed.
- Reference: a photo or a physical length of what you want matched, if you have one.
- Catalogue code: if the design is in the design catalogue, the code shown on its page.
For cord, add the six lines from how to specify a cord: fibre, construction, ply or carrier count, finished diameter, colour standard and put-up. For shoelaces, send the construction, width, length, colour and tip style (see the shoelace length chart). For trims sold by width, state the width in millimetres, and use the ribbon width chart or the cord size chart to convert inch sizes.
Questions
What does MOQ mean?
MOQ means minimum order quantity. At Saras Udyog in Jaipur, India it is set per SKU, not per order: on most lines each size, construction and shade has to reach the minimum on its own, and several SKUs can go in one order.
Is the minimum order per order or per SKU?

Can I mix colours and sizes in one order?

Can I buy less than the wholesale minimum?
The 2,000-metre minimum applies to made-to-order cord sold by length, per SKU. Ready packs have their own listed pack sizes. Choose a ready product in the catalogue for a smaller purchase, or ask for a sample quote before committing to bulk. The selected product page and confirmed quotation determine what can be supplied.
How can I check a factory before ordering cord from India?
For Saras Udyog, start with the factory photographs, the Jaipur address on our contact page and the exact catalogue reference you want to buy. Ask for the fibre, construction, finished diameter, colour reference, quantity and put-up in writing. Approve a physical sample and confirm the delivery terms before bulk production.
Does buying direct from a factory always cost less?
Compare the total cost for the same specification and quantity: product price, tax, packing, shipping and any destination charges. Factory-direct supply lets you request custom specifications, but a ready pack or local stockist can suit a small or urgent order. Saras Udyog confirms the selected specification and ordering terms in the quotation or checkout.
How should I check certification or testing requirements?
Tell us the intended use, destination market and required tests before asking for a quote. If certification is required, ask for the current document, issuing body, expiry date and exact product or facility scope. A claim about a fibre or factory does not establish certification for every finished product; confirm the evidence for the order.
